This wildly popular immersive mushroom workshop is ideal for beginners who wish to break through the fear factor and learn how to start identifying mushrooms.

The first part of the experience is a 3 hour presentation that teaches:

  • the basics of fungi biology & ecology
  • mushroom habitat
  • everything you need to know to safely identify mushrooms
  • common edible & medicinal mushrooms of Coastal BC
  • processing, preserving & cooking tips for each mushroom

In the second part, Shaggy Jack takes students on a forest foraging walk to a productive mushroom habitat where they get to apply their newfound identification skills in the field with guidance from an expert. Students get to take home a variety of edible mushrooms to try out. This forest excursion is approximately 2 hours in length.

Terms And Conditions
Following registration, an email verification will be sent confirming payment and registration. Students will be asked to sign a risk assessment and liability waiver before attending any forest tours. 2-4 days in advance of forest walks, students will receive an email with information about location and recommendations on what to bring with them. Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from class locations, which may include travel to sites along forestry service roads. People travelling to the Sunshine Coast via BC Ferries should schedule their trips to allow ample time to make it to class locations on time; locations are in the Gibsons-Roberts Creek area and are typically 5-20 minutes from the Langdale Ferry Terminal.

We require 96 hours notice of any cancellations in order to receive a full refund; postponements and rescheduling are permissible. Live, in-person indoor classes may be switched to Zoom classes by Shaggy Jack on short notice, particularly if there are Public Health Orders that restrict indoor gatherings. Abusive, aggressive or harassing behaviors towards staff or students will not be tolerated, and anyone engaging in such activities may be asked to leave the class and will not be eligible for refunds. For more detailed information on the above issues, click here.

Please note: the class contains safety information and must be completed before we take you out into the forest.
