Learn about edible & medicinal mushrooms & plants that commonly bloom during the spring & summer on the West Coast!
Take an educational forest eco-tour with Shaggy Jack. Learn about the ecological relationships between tree & mushroom species, the most productive habitats for specific mushroom species, and practice your foraging and ID skills with an professional forager on the beautiful Sunshine Coast!
Location
Forest Walk location meet-up spots will be announced via email by 7:00 pm the night before. Forest Walks generally take place in the Mt. Elphinstone area within a 5-20 minute drive from Gibsons. Some locations require driving up unpaved forest service roads. Participants are required to provide their own transportation to the site - please inquire if you have transportation needs.
Foraging
In the spring & summer, depending upon climate conditions, the variety & abundance of edible wild mushrooms that may be foraged can vary considerably compared to the more reliably abundant fall season. If you are hoping for a "good haul," please inquire about current conditions or the best times to book. Edible berries may be available from late May through early August.
Difficulty Level
Please indicate the type of hiking experience you would prefer:
Beginner - easy trails, level ground
Intermediate - variable terrain
Advanced - steep grades, dense brush off-trail, creek traverse
Time
Hikes are scheduled to start at 11:00 am and may be adjusted upon request. Bookings are available on every day of the week. Please email us if you need to request a different start time: info@shaggyjack.com

Child - $19
Children - Ages 6-14 are welcome to join the forest walk with an adult. Ages 15+ are considered adults. Children 5 & under are free. Groups of 4 or more get a 10% discount, use discount code GROUP4 at checkout.
