Wild Mushroom Foraging For Beginners: Zoom Class + Forest Walk

Shaggy Jack’s Wild Mushroom Foraging For Beginners classes have returned for our 8th year!

This wildly popular immersive mushroom workshop is ideal for beginners who wish to break through the fear factor and learn how to start identifying & harvesting wild mushrooms.

The Zoom class is a great alternative for folks who cannot attend the full day immersive class in Gibsons. Students will have the option to choose attending the Zoom class only or taking the Zoom class and joining a Forest Walk on any date this Fall after attending a Zoom class.

The class includes:

1. Zoom Class Presentation - 3.5 Hours

• basics of fungi biology
• forest habitat & mushroom ecology
• how to safely identify mushrooms
• common edible & medicinal mushrooms of Coastal BC
• processing, preserving & cooking tips for each mushroom
• mushroom harvesting methods & sustainability

2. Forest Foraging Walk - 2.5 Hours

In the second part, Shaggy Jack takes students on a forest foraging walk to a productive mushroom habitat where they get to apply their newfound identification skills in the field with guidance from an expert. Students get to take home a variety of edible mushrooms to try out. You may choose any available date on our calendar for the Forest Walk. 

Zoom Class Dates

Zoom classes begin promptly at the stated start times , so please log on at least 10 minutes beforehand to avoid interrupting a class in session. 

Saturday September 20 - 9:30 am - 1:00 pm
Sunday September 27 - 9:30 am - 1:00 pm
Wednesday October 8 - 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Forest Walk Dates

September - December
Sundays through Fridays 11:00 am - 1:30 pm
Saturdays 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm (*limited availability, not listed on calendar, email to inquire)

Zoom + Forest Walk Booking Instructions

For folks signing up for the Zoom Class + Forest Walk on separate dates, please do the following:

1. Choose a date on the CALENDAR for the FOREST WALK. 

2. When registering your name & contact information, answer the question asking you which Zoom class date you will be attending, selecting from the dates above. 

If you are only interested in attending the Zoom Class only but not the Forest Walk, BOOK HERE.
